Countdown to an Indian adventure...

With only 3 weeks to go before I step on the plane to India to start my adventure with WaterAid, I thought i'd take this opportunity to set up a blog to tell you all about the experiences of this once in a lifetime trip, and about the fantastic work WaterAid does!

My name is Matt Kirk and I have worked for Anglian Water for the last four years. Having joined AW's graduate scheme in 2009, my involvement with WaterAid has grown ever since. Anglian Water is a brilliant company to work for, not just professionally, but by promoting the work of WaterAid by supportng it's employees to be involved in fundraising activities.

Having been the fortunate fundraiser to be chosen to represent Anglian Water, this supporters trip is a chance to experience first hand the work WaterAid carry out to transform the lives of some of the world's poorest people. Along with the chosen fundraisers of the other major water companies in the UK, we will travel to India with WaterAid to witness pre and post intervention projects in some of the poorest communities of Bhopal and Gwalior.

WaterAid is a charitable organisation who's work is to provide access to safe water and effective hygiene and sanitation. Before becoming involved in WaterAid, these seemed like pretty basic aims in our modern world... yet the sad fact remains that 2,000 children die every day from dirty water and poor sanitation! The good news is WaterAid help 100 people every hour access safe drinking water.

As the trip approaches, I find myself more and more excited about being able to see the vital work WaterAid does and how it benefits the lives of the people within these communities. Before, during and after the trip, I hope to document my time in India, and my thoughts and feelings about what I witness. I hope this will be informative and interesting for people, and ultimately hope to inspire others about the good work WaterAid carries out.

Please feel free to share this with as many people as you like; I also have a twitter feed which I hope to keep updated too @MattKirk123Matt
